The war in 1982 Syria had ended with disaster on all sides. Chemical weapons devastated the battlefield but Syria in the end surrendered. Years following the war, Israel returned all land taken to a UN controlled Syria.
In early 1988 a Palestinian uprising in Gaza was crushed by the Israeli military. This prompted outcry from world leaders as the methods used by the IDF were deemed heavy handed. Thousands of civilian refugees flooded into Egypt to escape the chaos. The United States, once a key ally to Israel, has removed all support following the brutal war in Gaza. Israel was now alone and vulnerable.
The Egyptian government was quick to denounce the war in Gaza. Refugees are becoming a large burden on the already strained Egyptian economy. Skirmishes between Egyptian border guards and the IDF occurred almost weekly by summertime. All out war seemed inevitable. Mass mobilization began to happen on both sides.
July 25th 1988
The Egyptians have requested the assistance of the United States, Soviet Union, and the United Nations Security Council to protect the Palestinian population. So far all parties have declined to intervene. The Egyptian President in a huge turn of events, ordered all Israeli forces to leave Gaza by the end of the week or face forceful removal. The Israeli government has refused, and prepares for war.
UOAF Israel1980 Theater
Campaign: Egypt 1988
Playing as Israel, this will be the most difficult campaign to date at UOAF. We will face overwhelming odds in an almost entirely WVR environment. The air threat is vast, the ground threat is punishing, and from the start we are on the defensive.
The Egyptian Air Force uses a High-Low combination of technology. The high end being the F-16A/C and Mirage-2000EM, with low end using Mig-21/Mig-17/J-7. Take note of Egyptian F-16's and F-4's, they can be identified by the orange wingtips. Beware of Mirages and F-4's, they carry BVR Air-to-Air weapons.
