DCS Frag Team Concept
What is it?
In similar spirit to the Eurocorps, NORAD, and OP PACT frag teams, we discussed the possibility of opening UOAF to weekly or at least recurring DCS events in the similar fashion to UOAF BMS events. As a member of this frag team, meeshun scenarios would be made for that week's event on a weekly rotation to prevent burn out.
What kind of meeshuns?
We are not looking to make Bactria level meeshuns or campaigns every week. Simple knowledge of the DCS meeshun editor, and more importantly, the willingness to make these meeshuns is more essential. Scenarios would be essentially BMS-style using Georgia (and possibly Nevada, and other 3rd party if ownership is universal). Put down a few air defense battalions and conduct SEAD/DEAD with some redair CAP providing a challenge. Have an A-10 operate as a FAC-A and conduct pre planned CAS on some movers with redair interceptors. Do an OCA on a defended airbase. Yes, we will lose a bit of immersion for the "theater wide" campaign we environment we know in BMS, but if you look at our average BMS scenario this is basically what we are doing on a bigger scale. If desired, units destroyed in one meeshun can be persistently dead on the next meeshun, leading to campaign style play in DCS.
What kind of modules?
This is the most important piece. In order to simplify weekly meeshun development, we will pick a pool of 3-4 modules that we would use consistently with other modules simply being "periodic surprises." Think of this as our DCS mod pack. Yes these modules cost money, and this could "isolate people." If we don't standardize our jet usage, we would be going down a slippery slope trying to appease players at the cost of package integration and ultimately gameplay. Thus, these events are essentially pay for entry and there is no way around it. Clearly, priority would be given to slot an A-10 guy into an A-10 if that is the only module he owns. Right now the F/A-18C, A-10C, M2000C, and AV-8B are candidates. No slav shit, sorry. Hornets for multirole, A-10C for CAS/FAC-A, M2000C for CAP and occasional bombing, AV-8B for strike flexibility. These planes were chosen for their current or upcoming fidelity/release, as well as capability. Occasional featuring of the Viggen, F-5, and other modules could make sense. In addition, it is entirely foreseeable to have an F/A-18C only scenario one week.
What time period?
To optimize gameplay, a late 1980s or mid/late 1990's scenario would make the most sense. What this means is AIM-7M and AIM-9M employment, and marginal if not zero use of TGP's, JDAMs, etc. In our conversation today, most agreed that DCS does a better job modeling more intimate combat than BVR. DCS 2.5 has splendid visuals, especially at low level, so lets make best use of it by looking outside. This is just an idea that
Events could start as soon as possible, provided the DCS frag team is formed and establishes its expectations. Events could be on Sunday, could be after BMS events, etc. It's TBD. Having a dedicated DCS/UOAF server would be a plus.
What do I want from you in this thread?
How interested are you in participating in this concept, and would you volunteer for the DCS frag team?
