Air Combat Role Playing Game
For weeks I've been working on a project to combine fighter combat with a pen-and-paper RPG. Typically in these RPGs you have characters that level up, earn skill points or talents, and role-play both in and out of combat. In "Fox-One!" you play a pilot flying all types of aircraft. Just like Dungeons and Dragons or any Pen-and-Paper your character earns experience for levels(Ranks), chooses a character(Aircraft), purchases gear(Munitions) with currency(Sierra-Hotel), and goes on an adventure(War) full of challenging quest(Missions).
Starting sometime in the future we will begin play sessions on a website called Roll20.net. This site is great for organizing multiplayer pen-and-paper RPG games. I will GM our first play-through and we will have 8 pilots max.
But before we begin, players must choose their desired aircraft! I have created a spreadsheet with 6 pre-built aircraft and a list of aircraft I could create if desired. I have also created munitions for these 6 aircraft in the munitions tab. Please note that munitions will cost Sierra-Hotel points and I have not created the Hanger-Shop yet. Starting out at Rank1 you will receive Sierra-Hotel to purchase your first aircraft/munitions.
What now? For now please use this thread to post your desired playtime and starting aircraft, Saturday or Sunday is the most likely playtime. If you desire an aircraft from 1970~ and it is not on that list, please post here. Once we have all our pilots, I will setup a tech session where I introduce everyone to Fox-One!
Some play-testing of Fox-One! in Roll20
1. Fighter Aircraft: Built to fight other aircraft
A. Dog-fighters: High Maneuver and WVR Missiles, built to fight in close and merge.
B. Interceptors: High Tactics and BVR Missiles, build to fight at range.
C. Multi-Role Fighter: Balance of Maneuver and Tactics, built to fight at range and close in.
2. Attack Aircraft: Build to destroy ground targets.
A. Strike Fighters: High Maneuver Attack Aircraft, build to attack targets with high WVR anti-air. Smaller and more nimble, can fight other aircraft if needed.
B. Heavy Bombers: High Tactics Attack Aircraft, build to attack hard to kill ground targets. Heavy and slow, huge payloads. Keep them well escorted.
C. Light Bombers: Balance of Maneuver and Tactics, build to attack all types of targets with a decent payload.
3. Support Aircraft: Build to assist other aircraft.
A. Airborne Forward Air Controller: Locates enemy ground units. Increases Air-to-Ground Capability of Package. Reduces enemy ground WVR capability. Can call in NPC Helicopters for assistance.
B. AWACS: Locates enemy aircraft. Increases Air-to-Air Capability of Package. Reduces air based BVR capability. Can call in NPC Fighters for assistance.
C. Electronic Warfare: Reduces enemy radar range. Increases survivability vs BVR weapons. Reduces enemy BVR Range. Destroys BVR ground targets.
