I'm sure you guys heard about the
world's greatest aviators USN shootdown of a Syrian Su-22 back in June of this year. Well this year in the annual Tailhook convention (open to anyone with a trap on a carrier for full membership, as well as student pilots and industry types as associates. Yours truly wasn't able to make it this year) there was a not really Junior Officer panel featuring all 4 Naval Aviators from VFA-87 and VFA-37 who were involved in the shootdown. It's only about 45 minutes long and worth the listen.

This is an unclassified panel, obviously, so it's going to be light on technical details for the grogheads out there, but still very very interesting. One thing to note is that Navy Jet aviators tend to debrief in the future tense, which is very confusing at first. No one has yet told me why, but if you hear him say "we will actually arrive before element 2 and check in lower" that's what is going on.
