if something is that close you are not going to see it on the radar.
I recommend you learn how to use a radar by doing a 1v1 dogfight against a mig-15 or su-22 at 40 miles.
The most common noob radar issues are:
- Antenna tilt (max and min elevation next to the radar cursor) not set properly
- Nose angle - the radar is in your nose and it shoots like a flashlight, if you don't point your nose at the contact, you won't see it, this is very common in look up/down situations
- hold down TMS Up to focus the radar on a certain bit of sky, this is useful when you know something is there but it wont show up, this will maximize the number of returns in that section of sky and usually the contact will "Emerge" out of nowhere
