for the first time, I'm working on a project, specifically in the map making world...
The map will be called Sinjar. Sinjar will be based on the real life city of Sinjar, where the Yezidi Kurds live.
Yezidi's had no choice, but to flee to the mountains north of them when ISIS came.
Still held up there, the mountain has proved and served there protection, as the saying goes "No Friends but the Mountains" - Kurdish Proverb.
Anyhow, my plan is to make this 40KM Mountain which should end up 40x20 towards the end. It will be made using only satellite imagery and data that I have obv obtained my self.
The software I'm using is, L3DT Professional Developer Edition, to make it as detailed as possible I'm going to have to take very close screenshots of the closest or zoomed sections such as getting close to 50M.
By the maths I did, this will take approximately 800+ images, so if there's any alternatives to gaining all the images automatically, it would be appreciated.
I don't know how long this will take, but most likely more than I first imagined, probably more than 6 months, but until then, we'll see where we get.
When this finishes, I will have great ideas for mission idea's. Stuff that has happened in real life, I will throw it out there for mission editors to create on the map hopefully one day, and we'll see where it takes us
Check out these images where I will be updating time to time, as I progress I will keep you updated.
This is how it looks from a distance in 3D, the mountain needs a lot of work to be as accurate as possible, this is just a generated best as possible looking map.
As you see, it looks really really big,
This is the area I will be creating
Clouds in the freaking way >.<
The City, the big ass city!
