The second my section comes under fire, I order everyone to find cover and I run for cover as well. I quickly jump on the LR radio, say my callsign, then say i am in contact, example "1'1 in contact, wait out". This allows my PL to understand who is in contact right away which is important and gives me a little more time to gain an understanding of the situation. Usually for the first 10 seconds your going to be in a fog of war. From here I take time to communicate with my section and try to figure out where the fire is coming from, and determine the strength and distance of the enemy, I will also evaluate and ask if anyone is hit (usually I don't have to ask, people are pretty good at communicating that they, or someone is hit), and I will also evaluate our terrain to make sure we have good enough cover for a fire fight. In this case we are in a forest, so we should have some good tree and maybe rock cover and defilade.
In this specific example, If the wounded is unconscious, then he is going to need help from his buddy so he doesn't bleed out or get shot again. So while 1 soldier is helping the wounded (not the AR, i need his firepower), the situation becomes a 3 vs 6. I will need all 6 guns to get a base of fire and put down rapid fire and rain grenade fire on the 3 man enemy patrol, so that we can gain fire superiority while the wounded is being dealt with, and so we don't take as much if any accurate incoming fire. My section will hold and kill / suppress the enemy from our position and deal with the wounded. I would also order my grenadier (if not me) to fire a red smoke on the enemies position or near it to mark them ( that's if we have 203 smoke available). Once I understand where the incoming fire is coming from and get an idea of the distance and strength of the enemy (I try to get this done in 10 - 30 seconds max and send a contact report with what info I got during that time), which in this case is 3 enemy 200 meters north of me , I will send a contact report to the PL.
"1'0, this is 1'1, contact report over".
"1'1, this is 1'0, send it over".
"1'1, my callsign is engaged with enemy fireteam 200 meters North of my position in the opposite tree line marked with red smoke, break, (if need be i will send grids for my section and enemy), I have 1x wounded unable to walk and we are continuing to suppress and kill the contact over".
Then from there, I await orders and continue to monitor our situation and coordinate fires with my section. It is now up to the PL on how to mamage this particular situation and my decisions after that will depend on the tasking the PL gives me.
The decisions I make for my section during the fire fight depend on the situation my section is in for this specific scenario. If I am winning the fight, I will hold and continue to win, if for some reason these 3 enemies are getting the better of us, I will pop a lot of smoke, shift to better ground, or break contact. If we are taking a shit kicking and are completely pinned down, then I will request for reinforcements. Considering that I have 1x wounded, and there is a 200 meter wide open field between me and the enemy, I will most likely not assault unless ordered. 200 meters of open ground is a lot of open ground in a fire fight, a risk I should not need to take alone if I have a platoons worth of friendlies behind me.
